Online educator marks Anti-Bullying Day (Pink Shirt Day) by launching two new courses on workplace bullying: one for employers, one for employees

COURTENAY, B.C. – February 27, 2013 — Bullying doesn’t just happen on the playground. Social isolation, the spreading of rumours, excessive or unjustified criticism and other bullying behaviours happen often in the workplace. Research from Jacqueline Power, an assistant professor of management at the University of Windsor’s Odette School of Business found that 40 percent of Canadians have experienced one or more acts of workplace bullying at least once a week over the preceding six months. The provincial governments of Québec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and, most recently, British Columbia have cracked down on workplace bullying, amending legislation to protect workers.

Today, on the sixth annual Anti-Bullying Day (Pink Shirt Day), online education provider ILScorp is happy to announce the launch of two new online courses that tackle this issue:

Workplace Bullying Employee Version – Understanding Workplace Bullying & Tools for Safeguarding an Organization from Bullying Behaviour

The course is divided into four modules with a final exam:

  1. Identification of Workplace Bullying and the Law
  2. Preventing Workplace Bullying
  3. Developing a Workplace Bullying Prevention Program
  4. Conclusions
  5. Final Exam

“Employers and employees alike need to be aware of the workplace bullying laws and regulations in place in Canada. It’s a pervasive issue that has significant long-term effects on individuals and businesses,” says Ken MacRae, President and CEO, ILScorp. “That’s why today we’re launching new courses as a way to educate Canadians while helping them to ensure they are in compliance with the law.”

“Bullying is always unacceptable,” adds Laura Dennis, LL.B., Senior Vice President of Business Development, ILScorp. “But bullying in the workplace threatens livelihoods, productivity and even lives. This behaviour is unwelcome and unacceptable. ILScorp’s newest courses educate employees and employers on how to recognize the warning signs, avert disaster or deal with the bully.”

Both courses are now available through the ILScorp website at www.ilscorp.com for a cost of $85 per course (plus tax). As an added benefit for Group Program members*, users can access these courses for free. The courses are currently accredited for CE credits in British Columbia, with accreditation in other jurisdictions coming soon.
