Attention Manitoba Life and A&S Agents: Important
information needed for your renewal
The Life Insurance Council of Manitoba has
approved a revised Code of Conduct which outlines the standards
of ethical, operational and trade practices for all Life
and Accident and Sickness Insurance Agents in the province.
Agents are required to return a signed copy
of the notification with their renewal, indicating that
they have reviewed and understood the revised version of
the Life Insurance and Accident and Sickness Agent's Code
of Conduct.
The new Code of Conduct can be found here
in PDF form.
The Notice to be signed and returned can be
found here,
also in PDF form.
Changes to Alberta Insurance Agents
and Adjusters Regulations
All Alberta insurance professionals need to
be aware of recent changes to the province’s Insurance
Agents and Adjusters Regulations.
Effective as of February 5, 2009, all agents, brokers and
adjusters will be required to maintain their continuing
education certificates for three years after the expiry
of the term in which they were earned. The Alberta Insurance
Council will continue to conduct audits for compliance with
this requirement on a random basis, but these compliance
audits will only extend back three years.
For more information on these changes, visit the
Alberta Insurance Council's website.

Did you know that April is Auto Crime Enforcement
month?
Recent statistics show that auto
theft rates are declining in Canada, but the numbers
are still too high for some to stomach.
Statistics Canada found that in 2007, 146,142 vehicles
were stolen in Canada. While this is a drop of 7.9
percent from the previous year, auto theft is still
a big problem across the country. The Insurance Bureau
of Canada said that in the same year, auto theft cost
Canadian insurers about $542 million – or about
$35 per auto insurance policy.
It is obviously a big problem and this month, law
enforcement and insurers across Canada are doing what
they can to raise awareness and put a stop to auto
crime.
Want more news on auto theft and other crime and fraud
related insurance topics? Check out ILSTV’s
dedicated Crime and Insurance channel.
If you’re interested in finding out more about
auto theft, ILScorp is happy to offer an online CE
course that examines this issue in great detail. "Auto
Theft – A Trans-Canada Problem"
focuses on the growing problem of automobile theft
in Canada and the risk management strategies that
our clients can use to reduce the potential for a
theft loss. Topic headings include: Vehicle Theft
in Canada; An Across Canada Review; The Logistics
of Auto Theft and Strategies That Will Help You to
Protect your Vehicle from Thieves.
This course is worth 3 CE credit hours and is accredited
in most jurisdictions. This course is available at
a pay-per-use cost of $75. For even more value, consider
purchasing an Annual General Insurance Subscription.
For just $125 you can have access to this course and
more than 150 others for a full year. Look for it
and others like it in the course
catalog.
